My Video Review of WP Video Streamer

If you have a blog or website and you are creating content on a regular basis, then chances are that you will eventually need to embed videos on your site. Let's face it… videos are some of the best content you can create today for your website or blog.

But choosing a good way to host your videos online is important. Do it the wrong way and you'll either slow down your website or spend too much money hosting your videos.

The ‘Free' Option that really isn't Free

A lot of people make the mistake of using YouTube to host their videos that they will eventually embed on their website. This used to be a good idea, but in the past couple of years it's become a bad one.

In September 2018 changed how they operate so that you can not ‘disable related videos' anymore. This means that when people are watching videos on your website that are hosted on YouTube, there will be plenty of opportunities for people to ‘click a link' on the video and get taken away from your site.

In fact, now, if people pause a video on your site that is hosted on YouTube, all of a sudden the video screen will fill with ‘related videos' or ‘more videos' which will tempt people to click on one of them and then they will LEAVE YOUR SITE. YouTube, in effect, is ‘stealing' your website traffic this way, and that makes using YouTube to host your videos a basic non-starter. Don't do it.

Paid Options that Can Cost You Money

To avoid YouTube and it's draconian strangle hold on how much branding it puts on the videos you embed on your site, you can always try a paid service like Vimeo or Wistia.

I personally use Vimeo (I have a PRO account) and it's great. However it costs me $20/month and to get that price I have to pay annually. So it's not cheap, but it's good for what I need.

If you are starting out you may not want to pay that much (or pay anything) to get your videos up on your website easily and without a lot of branding from another site.

Say hello to WP Video Streamer.

How to Host Your Videos For Free on Dropbox

Dropbox is a great way to store your files ‘in the cloud' and it has both free and paid plans. Wouldn't it be amazing if you could use a free plan of Dropbox and host your videos on your website with it? Well guess what? Now you can.

All it takes is getting a copy of WP Video Streamer today, adding it to your WordPress site, and then host all the videos you need, on your website, without any branding by YouTube or any chance of YouTube ‘stealing' your website visitors.

        Hey John,
Thanks, I’m glad you liked the review.

It’s a nice product, nice way to organize videos and serve them on your website without eating up your hosting bandwidth (since the videos are being served from your Dropbox Account).
